When 18-year-old Jackie Rosas saw a post on Tumblr from a 16 year-old bullying victim (who also frequently blogged about struggling with depression) threatening to commit suicide, she knew she had to do something. The only problem was, she only knew the girl’s first name. Rosas contacted local authorities, and together they looked for clues on the blog to try to find out where she lived, her last name or details that could help locate her.
After eventually finding a picture and piecing together clues about the girl’s school, they contacted authorities thousands of miles away to try to find the teen. When police arrived at the address they eventually identified, they found a 16-year-old girl who had ingested pills in a possible suicide attempt, and were able to immediately get her treatment. Rosas told USA Today, “It happened at random, and it’s an amazing feeling knowing you are able to help someone from thousands of miles away” …
