Supreme Court Temporarily Blocks Same-Sex Marriage in Utah

There will be no more same-sex marriages in the state of Utah—at least for the time being. The Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the state, temporarily striking down a federal judge’s decision, ruling that Utah’s ban on same-sex marriages was unconstitutional. The case will now be heard by a federal appeals court. Voters in Utah approved a ban on same-sex marriage nine years ago, but in December, a District Court judge said that the ban, “conflicts with the United States Constitution’s guarantees of equal protection and due process under the law.” The appeals court in Denver will hear the case on an “expedited basis,” and may have a ruling in the coming weeks …
