Allow Your Mind to Be Blown by the New Trailer for ‘Blade Runner 2049’
Back in 1982, a little-known director named Ridley Scott unleashed Blade Runner on an unsuspecting audience. Critics didn’t know what to make of it. Viewers were dumbfounded. But in time, Scott’s adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sleep? earned the recognition it deserved as a sharp, creative sci-fi classic.
And now, Hollywood’s going to try it again. Admittedly, long-delayed sequels aren’t the safest bet in the industry, but there’s reason to be optimistic here. Writer/director Denis Villeneuve is one of the most intriguing talents in the business right now, and movies like Arrival and Sicario showcase an eye for taut, artistic thrillers.
Harrison Ford is returning to the saddle, and Ryan Gosling will be sitting in the driver’s seat. And then there’s the trailer, which captures the original’s grimy, dystopian future and eerie, ponderous mood. We’ll see if this one joins its predecessor as a classic in October.
