Here’s the Trailer for the Documentary ‘The Problem With Apu’ That Everyone Is Talking About

BY RELEVANT CULTURE / FILM November 13, 2017

You may have seen some buzz building around an upcoming documentary that looks at the legacy of one of The Simpson’s most infamous characters: Apu.

Voiced by Hank Azaria (who is white), the India proprietor of the Kwik-E-Mart is often used as an example of an offensive racial stereotype.

In his upcoming documentary The Problem With Apu, comedian Hari Kondabolu looks at the character’s origins and the legacy of The Simpsons. As he explained to NBC, “I don’t find Apu offensive, I find him annoying and insulting. But for me, one: It’s inaccurate. Two: It’s insulting to my parents. And three: When that’s the only depiction you have, that’s how the world sees you.”

The concept for the film—which airs on TruTV on Nov. 19.—has drawn some intense responses from Simpsons fans online (whom haven’t actually seen the documentary yet).
