Top Romantic Movie Classics

If you are searching for a romantic movie to watch with your significant other, curl up on the couch and watch one of the following romantic classics.

For guys, some of the most romantic movies must have bloodshed. It must be a by-product of a primal urge to kill for our women. Mel Gibson’s epic was a masterful tale of a man driven by the death of his beloved to liberate a nation.

[It’s a Wonderful Life]

Okay, so it’s normally a Christmas movie. But this cleverly constructed morality tale is, at its core, a timeless love story.

[Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon]

I never used the word “beautiful” to describe a movie until I saw this one. Ang Lee’s martial-arts masterpiece contained two separate but very effective love stories.

[Life is Beautiful]

While I loved this movie, I can understand that it is more powerful if you have kids. A good friend (who is a father and husband) said it perfectly: “As a parent, one can appreciate trying to give our children hope and shield them from the evils of the world so that they may maintain their innocence and wonder for life as long as possible!”

[Bottle Rocket]

You won’t find this movie in the romance section of your video store, but this directorial debut by Wes Anderson (Rushmore; The Royal Tenenbaums) contains a subplot centering around one of the most unique, funny, and endearing love stories that you’ll see.

The result of a poll I conducted. Guys, this is probably the list you should really pay attention to.

[Gone with the Wind]

While this list isn’t necessarily in order, this Victor Fleming epic was the clear number one favorite. Strap in, guys. It’s going to be a long 234 minutes.

[Dr. Zhivago]

As one pollster remarked, “David Lean is probably the most classically romantic director ever.”

[Sleepless in Seattle]

One of Nora Ephron’s films was bound to end up here.

The one dark secret that this movie buff has is that I’ve never see this movie.

[An Affair To Remember]

Cary Grant is obviously a sure bet, guys. If you’re not married and are trying to win that special lady’s heart, get this! If you’re not married and are graciously trying to say goodbye to your lady, rent Over the Top.
