A ‘Veep’ Producer Is Doing a George Santos Film For HBO. Of Course

In an era where truth often feels stranger than fiction, the life and lies of George Santos, the recently expelled U.S. Congressman, are now being packaged into a new HBO film.

Days after Santos was kicked out of Congress, the network optioned Mark Chiusano’s The Fabulist: The Lying, Hustling, Grifting, Stealing, and Very American Legend of George Santos. The upcoming film is set to be a forensic and darkly comic take on the absurd congressional race in Long Island that catapulted Santos into a brief, scandal-ridden stint in D.C. Think of it like Veep meets The Wolf of Wall Street, only the wolf is wearing a very fetch sweater under a blazer.

And speaking of Veep, executive producer Frank Rich has signed on to the project, along with Bad Education writer Mike Makowsky. No word yet on who will be playing the starring role (we’re holding out hope for Robby from New Girl), but HBO has shared that the film will be a deep dive into the Gatsby-esque journey of a man who seemingly conjured himself out of thin air.

The announcement comes hot on the heels of Santos’ dramatic expulsion from Congress for an ethics scandal where he’s been accused of seemingly everything, from missing donor funds on OnlyFans and Botox treatments to wire fraud and identity theft. Santos, to no one’s surprise, has denied everything.

In related news, Santos is staying booked in his post-Congressional era by offering his services on Cameo. Just in time for the holidays, he’s offering the perfect gift for (or from) your favorite grifter. Merry Christmas!
