The ‘Minari’ Director and Cast Discuss How ‘Minari’ Is the Story of a Man ‘Wrestling With God’

Minari was nominated for six Oscars last weekend, including Best Picture, Best Director for Lee Isaac Chung, Best Actor for Steven Yeun and Best Supporting Actress for Yuh-Jung Youn. They’re all very well deserved nominations for one of the year’s best movies, and now we’ve got a closer look at some of the ways faith plays into Minari‘s story of a family of Korean Americans who’ve moved to rural Arkansas in search of their own American dream. Yeun says his character, Jacob is a man “wrestling with God,” and that theme pops up repeatedly as the family seeks out belonging, community and spiritual encouragement in the Ozarks. Yeun seems to get a little choked up talking about how proud he is of the movie, and you might get choked up watching it too. Minari is available in video on demand now and it is well worth your time.
