Billie Eilish is officially back and getting ready for the follow-up to 2019’s mammoth hit WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?. Following a series of pandemic one-offs we have an official single for her upcoming Happier Than Ever. It’s called “Your Power” and comes with her own self-directed music video which should not be watched by the snake-averse.
The song itself feels like it came from the same quarantine muse that visited Taylor Swift — a stripped down acoustic number that’s both as pretty and as sad as anything Eilish has ever done. In a statement, she called it “one of [her] favorite songs [she’s] ever written.”
“I feel very vulnerable putting this one out because I hold it so close to my heart,” she continued. “This is about many different situations that we’ve all either witnessed or experienced. I hope this can inspire change. Try not to abuse your power.”
Billie’s been open about what she called a brief “super religious” phase, which she came by organically and, at least for now, has mostly outgrown. “I don’t not believe and I don’t do believe,” she said on a recent podcast with her father, actor Patrick O’Connell. “I’m in a very neutral position. I’m open to every belief pretty much.” She says she is still intrigued by “the idea that there’s a God.”
Happier Than Ever drops July 30 and will probably be more or less inescapable.
