No, Lil Nas X Is Not Attending Liberty University

If there was a title of Biggest Internet Troll, it would almost certainly go to Lil Nas X.

The rapper, who is busy promoting his upcoming single “J Christ,” posted an image on Instagram of his acceptance letter from Liberty University, one of the world’s largest Christian colleges, claiming he will be taking a dual concentration in Christian Leadership and Biblical Studies beginning this fall.

“I know some of yall hate me right now but i want yall to know im literally about to go to college for biblical studies in the fall,” he wrote in the caption. “Not everything is a troll! Anyways IM A STUDENT AGAIN! LETS GOOO.”

Of course, his statement would be more believable if the acceptance letter he showed used the correct Liberty University president’s name.

At the very end of the letter, a signature from Jerry Falwell is the key giveaway that this is nothing more than a marketing tactic meant to generate buzz. The current Liberty president is Dondi Costin, who took over for Jerry Falwell Jr. following a string of personal scandals. Since then, Falwell has been staying busy by suing the university for his forced resignation, retirement benefits and using his father’s name — something Lil Nas X might want to be aware of.

Earlier this week, the “Old Town Road” musician shared the single’s cover art, which features himself taking Jesus’ place on a cross as five bystanders raise him from the ground. In another clip, Lil Nas X is nailed to a gold cross that transforms into a mechanical suit, complete with a halo, of course.

“MY NEW SINGLE IS DEDICATED TO THE MAN WHO HAD THE GREATEST COMEBACK OF ALL TIME,” Lil Nas wrote in his announcement.
