Phoebe Bridgers’ Acoustic Version of “Chinese Satellite” Absolutely Delivers

Phoebe Bridgers has gifted fans a beautiful acoustic cover of “Chinese Satellite,” and she’s somehow made it even more beautiful.

The original song was featured on Bridgers’ 2020 Punisher album, but the new stripped down version was released as part of Secretly Canadian’s 25th anniversary singles series SC25. Other contributions to the series includes Bright Eyes “Running Back,” Hatchie’s “Crush,” Bartees Strange’s “Lady Luck” and more. The series intends to raise $250,000 for the inclusive Bloomington shelter New Hope For Families.

The song is about Bridgers’ struggles with religion. She’s been open about her lack of religious belief and here explores the tension she feels of wanting to believe in something more out there (“I want to be wrong!”) and the reality of hate and bitterness she sees from Christians around her. Might be something for us to consider!

Bridgers has had a busy month already. Earlier this week, she expanded her upcoming Reunion Tour, which kicks off next month in Phoenix, Arizona. She also recently launched Saddest Factory Radio on SiriusXM, a monthly show she hosts. It features her in conversations with artists from her label, while she plays and discusses some of her favorite songs.
