Knives Out was some of the most fun you could have in 2019 without an HBO subscription. A cunning, deliciously acted whodunnit jam-packed with a winning moral anchor, all helmed by former “youth group kid” Rian Johnson. And it was a huge box office success, earning back its meager budget many times over. And you know what that spells: it’s sequel time, baby.
All the signs were there. Daniel Craig’s delightfully deep-fried private investigator Benoit Blanc was clearly being established as a character worth re-visiting, and that’s just what Johnson intends to do. According to the Hollywood Reporter, he’s already at work on scripting a followup that will find Blanc on another case that might start filming as soon as next year.
Johnson’s got a few plates spinning. There was talk of Lucasfilm giving him his own Star Wars trilogy, but that entire franchise is a little up in the air at the moment.
