Steph Curry: ‘I Thank God Every Day’

Steph Curry has notched his fourth title in eight years, landing him in an extremely rarified stratosphere of professional athlete. The Golden State Warriors clinched a 103-90 victory over Boston in the NBA Finals, an incredible feat for a team that had the league’s worst record just two seasons ago. Curry, as is his wont, gave the credit to God.

“I thank God every day that I get to play this game at the highest level with some amazing people,” Curry told ABC after the game. “This is what it’s all about — for a championship and what we’ve been through the last few years. At the beginning of the season, nobody thought we would be here — except everybody on this court right now. It’s amazing. It’s very surreal. …We were so far away from it.”

For all Curry’s acclaim as a player, his success this season was far from a sure thing. Two of his previous titles were secured with the help of Kevin Durant, Curry’s co-star in one of the best partnerships in NBA history. But Durant is with the Brooklyn Nets now, leaving Curry to prove that he was still capable of greatness on his own. He did just that, averaging 34 points in the finals.

“God is great,” he told reporters in the post-game news conference. “The ability to be on this stage and play with amazing teammates against a great Boston Celtics team that gave us everything …this one hits different for sure.”
