Armando Ianucci has built a career off biting humor, having created both the American political satire Veep and the Russian political satire The Death of Stalin, which were both excellent. But while the first trailer for his adaptation of Dickens’ David Copperfield certainly looks very funny, it has a real warmth and charm that the rest of his output has rarely bothered with.
Also, this is the second great-looking movie trailer released today to star Dev Patel, who most viewers are probably familiar with for his roles in Slumdog Millionaire and The Newsroom. Glad to see he’s finally getting some work worthy of his abilities. Everything’s coming up DEV!
The Personal History of David Copperfield also stars Hugh Laurie, Tilda Swinton, Peter Capaldi, Gwendolyn Christie and Benedict Wong. It’ll release in theaters this May.
