The first trailer for the Ruth Bader Ginsburg biopic On the Basis of Sex is here, with Felicity Jones in the leading role. The movie follows Ginsburg as she teams with her husband Marty (Armie Hammer, always welcome) to confront legal and national tradition.
The biopic will focus on one of Ginsburg’s earliest cases, Weinberger v. Wiesenfeld. In the case, she argued before the Supreme Court that a widower denied his wife’s survivor benefits under Social Security violated his right to equal protection under the Constitution. In other words, it was a case discriminating against a man, and RBG used it to push gender equality forward. Back in 1975, it was a huge deal. Today, it still is.
The movie opens Christmas Day. Justin Theroux (The Leftovers) and Kathy Bates star, too.
