Keanu Reeves Will Star in Hulu’s ‘Devil in the White City’ Adaptation

Keanu Reeves has done it all. He’s been a cyberpunk messiah metaphor. He’s been an assassin on the warpath to avenge his brand new puppy. He’s even been a guy on the bus that couldn’t slow down. One thing he hasn’t been, believe it or not, is on TV. But that’s about to change. Reeves has been cast as the lead in the long gestating adaptation of Erik Larson historical novel Devil in the White City.

The movie is being produced by some guys named Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese and will be directed by Little Children‘s Todd Field. It follows the twin stories of two men in Chicago for the 1893 World’s Fair — one a brilliant but troubled architect, the other a brilliant but troubled, well, serial killer. The story expertly weaves their narratives together, showing how the two epitomized the two directions that lay ahead for America at the turn of the century — and which one we collectively chose. Reeves will play the architect, Daniel Burnham.

The DiCaprio/Scorsese production partnership has been a fruitful one in the past, giving us projects like  Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island and The Wolf of Wall Street. Next up is another historical drama: Killers of the Flower Moon, in which DiCaprio is executive producing and starring. It’ll premiere on Apple TV Plus next year.
