According to a new report from Baptist Press, so far this year, 44 abortion providers around the country have closed their doors. The pro-life advocacy organization Operation Rescue, a group that also tracks abortion clinic closures, says that’s already greater than the number of clinics that were closed in 2012 and 2011. Though opinions about why so many clinics have closed this year vary, increasingly strict state legislation may play a significant role. The group Americans United for Life says that across the country, 69 “pro-life laws” were passed by state legislators. The report also points to the high-profile case of Kermit Gosnell—a doctor convicted of murdering live babies at his infamous clinic in Philadelphia—that has led to greater government oversight and swayed some public opinion about abortion …
