
Yikes. The New York Times has published a report that cites those little, bizarrely-popular, allegedly grape-flavored 5-Hour Energy drinks as being cited in 13 deaths over the past 4 years. They’ve also been mentioned in 90 FDA filings, 30 of which involved life-threatening situations like heart attacks and convulsions. 5-Hour Energy drinks haven’t actually said how much caffeine is in their beverage, but Consumer Reports estimated it about 215 milligrams—about twice as much as your average cup of coffee. Which would make coffee sound much safer than 5-Hour Energy but, of course, regular readers know that is simply not the case …
