Report: 61 Percent of Christians Ascribe to a New Age Belief

In a recent poll conducted by the Pew Research Center, it was found that over 6 in 10 Christians say they ascribe to a New Age belief. The number is 62 percent for those who say they’re unaffiliated with religion, 22 percent for atheists and 78 percent among “nones,” people who ascribe to no particular belief system.

The four New Age beliefs described in the article include: “believe spiritual energy can be located in physical things,” “believe in psychics,” “believe in reincarnation” and “believe in astrology.”

Some analysts explain the data by pointing to the decline in traditional religious thinking overall. (h/t The Hill)

It’s noteworthy in the data that Christians are almost three times as likely as atheists to believe in something affiliated with New Age. They’re also significantly more likely to believe in these ideas than agnostics.
