Not only does being constantly cynical make you a bummer to be around, it might also be killing your brain. According to the results of a new study, cynicism triples a person’s risk of developing dementia. For their research, the team from the University of Eastern Finland interviewed nearly 1,500 elderly people, and asked them if they agreed with statements like “It is safer to trust nobody” in order to gauge their level of cynicism. After looking at the results for additional tests that uncover dementia, the researchers found a noticeable link between having a cynical outlook and the neurological problem.
