An off-duty North Carolina police officer was passing by a local apartment complex when he heard sobbing and crying. As AP reports, he charged in, saving two young girls, 3 and 5 years old, from their father who was allegedly was trying to drown them. Let’s ignore the horrifying implications for now and concentrate on the brilliant upside. A man, charged with saving lives, just happened across a needle in a haystack situation where he could do just that. We have a name for people like that. Hero.
