When restaurant owner Michael De Beyer found out that a 19-year-old employee, who doesn’t have health insurance, had been diagnosed with a brain tumor, he knew something had to be done. Young Brittany Mathis, who works at Kaiserhof Restaurant and Wunderbar in Montgomery, Texas, with her mother and sister, went to the hospital for a skin rash, she was told a tumor was causing blood to clot. Doctors needed to perform tests to find out if the tumor was dangerous or not, and were especially concerned because her father died of an undiagnosed brain tumor when she was a child. De Beyer, who has owned the German restaurant for 17 years, has decided to sell the business and use the money so Mathis can receive the further tests and treatment she needs. “Here’s a family, they really work hard they have a lot of stuff against them in the past and they are not holding their hand open. They didn’t even ask anybody for help,” De Beyer said in an interview with KHOU in Houston. He told the news station, “I just can’t be standing by and doing nothing. I have to try something because it’s not right” …
