This weekend, Saturday Night Live found itself in a controversy, when Pete Davidson made fun of Republican Congressional candidate Dan Crenshaw. The former Navy Seal lost one of his eyes while serving in Afghanistan. Davidson’s bit has been the subject of widespread criticism.
However, in a video he posted over the weekend, Crenshaw said he isn’t one of the ones demanding an apology.
He said,“I want us to get away from this culture where we demand an apology every time someone misspeaks. I think that would be very healthy for our nation to go in that direction. We don’t need to be outwardly outraged. I don’t need to demand apologies from them. They can do whatever they want, you know. They are feeling the heat from around the country right now and that’s fine.”
However, he did say that SNL should not make fun of veterans’ war injuries: “Veterans across the country probably don’t feel as though their wounds [that] they received in battle should be the subject of a bad punch line.”
You can see his statement above.
