Who’ll be getting her own TV show? It’s …well, you see where this is going. Agatha Harkness, the breakout star of Marvel Studios’ WandaVision series, is getting her own spinoff show on Disney Plus, Variety has learned. Kathryn Hahn will be back as the power hungry witch with an irresistible theme song and WandaVision writer Jac Schaeffer is returning as well for what’s being described as a dark comedy.
Beyond that, the plot details aren’t clear. In the comics, Agatha Harkness is a witch but she isn’t a straightforward villain, often working alongside the heroes and offering them magical assistance or cryptic wisdom when necessary. In WandaVision [SPOILERS ahead], she started out as a mysterious presence who clearly knew more than she was letting on before revealing herself as a powerful and decidedly ill-intentioned bad guy. If she’s getting her own show, expect to see her moral universe shift accordingly. That’s comics for you.
The show is also at least partly responsible for ushering in the Hahnaissance, finally giving Hahn her well-deserved time in the spotlight after a long career of playing second fiddle (a long career, we might add, that began with a role in Psalty the Singing Songbook). Her star has only continued to climb ever since, including a plumb role on Rian Johnson’s upcoming Knives Out sequel.
And, don’t forget, she’s got her own song. Let ‘er rip!
