If Netflix has been good for anything in this world, it’s been 1) letting us watch The Office with enough attention to detail it’s like we’re looking at footage of Area 51, 2) introducing us to at least a half-dozen murder cases we’re obsessed with and 3) reviving the romantic comedy.
Their new trailer for the upcoming movie The Perfect Date is case in point.
In the wake of last year’s streaming hits Set It Up and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, The Perfect Date is checking all the boxes in the Netflix formula.
Its stars, Noah Centineo from To All the Boys and Camila Mendes of Riverdale, are already established attractions on the streaming platform. Its youth-oriented premise, with plenty of smartphone high jinks and loads of high school social politics, is tailor-made for teenagers looking to kill time on a weekend and it has the perfect blend of predictability and surprise. You know exactly who Noah Centineo is ending up with at the end of this movie, but how that happens, still up in the air!
We’re usually ones for more deep-thinking fare around here, but there’s something fun about watching the crazy kids fall in love that does something to our souls. Netflix has promised it will deliver us another Summer of Love with a heavy slate of rom-coms as the season turns, but for now, we’re down with a spring fling.
The Perfect Date streams April 12. You bring the ice cream.
