This week, Kim Kardashian West, the reality TV star, prison reform activist and wife of rapper Kanye West, visited the talk show The View. While there, Kim was asked about Sunday Services, the weekly, church-like gatherings organized by her husband.
The meetings have been sort of evolving events, mostly centered around music, but sometimes have included sermons. They’ve also drawn celebrities like Sia, DMX, Brad Pitt and David Letterman among others. However, Kanye or Kim haven’t really been able to fully articulate what Sunday Service actually is.
On The View, Kim explained that it is a reflection of her husband’s faith.
“Kanye started this to really heal himself and it was a really personal thing, and it was just friends and family,” she said. “He has had an amazing evolution of being born again and being saved by Christ.”
Kim said that though it isn’t officially a church, it serves a similar purpose: “People always ask, ‘What are you worshiping?’ It is a Christian service, like a musical ministry. They talk about Jesus and God,” adding that they are doing it “for God, and it’s a Christian church.”
This weekend, Kanye brought Sunday Service to Atlanta’s New Birth church. You can see the whole thing below.
