OK, this one has quite a backstory. Evidently, in Pixar’s Toy Story universe, the Buzz Lightyear action figure is a toy based on a scifi blockbuster called Lightyear. Now, here in our actual universe, we’re gonna get a chance to see what all the fuss is about with the studio’s big 2022 summer movie. The vocal talents of Chris Evans will take on the rookie space ranger called upon to do Star Command proud.
And the trailer looks pretty good! As usual, Pixar’s greatest talent is for crafting new worlds and, in this case, galaxies that feel authentic and lived in, so it’ll be fun to see how far they stretch themselves with the canvas of space. And Lightyear is part of one of movie history’s most reliably solid franchises, with four winners in the basket. Color us intrigued while we wait to see more signs of intelligent life anywhere.
