You don’t get to pick what sort of news happens in 2022. You can only react to it and try to make sense of it best as your feeble mind will allow. For example, why are Dolly Parton and Doja Cat appearing in a Tiktok musical about Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza? Why not? Why are there so many stars in the sky? What do black holes do? You see how pointless it is to try and wrap your head around the mysteries of the universe?
Ostensibly, Parton and Doja Cat are appearing in Mexican Pizza: The Musical because they’ve both been public fans of Taco Bell’s departed menu item. Taco Bell ditched the Mexican Pizza to widespread outcry in 2020, and is now bringing it back with all the pomp and circumstance of a newly inaugurated president.
In fact, there’s reason to suspect it could be a good deal more entertaining than a presidential inauguration. Red-hot Grammy-winning songwriting team Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear are handling the music and Hannah Friedman, who is helping writing Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series, is doing the writing. No doubt, this team is capable of great things. But is this concept capable of greatness? Now we’re getting back to one of those eternal questions for which there is no real answer.
At least, not yet. The musical will drop on Tiktok later this month, and we’ll see for ourselves.
