Netflix Starts Cracking Down on Password Sharing Today—Here’s What You Need to Know

Netflix has been warning us for a while now that it would be cracking down on password sharing outside of one’s household, but the details were unclear – until now.

Users must now connect to the Wi-Fi at their primary location, open the Netflix app or website, and watch something at least once every 31 days to ensure uninterrupted access on their device.

“This creates a trusted device so you can watch Netflix, even when you’re away from your primary location,” the company wrote in an updated Help Center document.

If you’re away on vacation, no problem. Simply log in to your account and stream to your heart’s content. But if you’re away for more than 31 days, Netflix says that “your device may be blocked from watching.” The solution is to request a “temporary access code.”

However, there’s a chance Netflix will change its’ own rules. The updated document, first noted by The Streamable, has since been removed from the Netflix website, which means there’s a chance the streaming giant might modify the policy.
