Daredevil has always been Marvel’s most theologically inclined show, with our hero Matt Murdock’s inner struggle with the divine often just as thrilling as his outer battles against organized crime and ancient ninjas. Season three will be landing on Netflix in just a few weeks and based on the trailer, it’s going to a fun, lighthearted romp into the crumbling ethical boundaries of a masked vigilante on the verge of crossing a line of no return.
Even in the comics, Daredevil’s never had most stable of moral frameworks, so it’ll be interesting to see a superhero story with protagonist who is not acting particularly super or heroic. If you check out the Daredevil official Twitter feed, you’ll see how explicitly the Bible is being used as a thematic tease for this season. And that checks out, as Matt Murdock’s lengthy debates about the nature of God and evil have been a regular feature of the show. Should be an interesting ride for fans of theology debates, superhero antics and breezy, not-at-all depressing-looking romps.
