Actor Jon Hamm was recently a guest on In Depth with Graham Bensinger, and gave a really powerful interview.
Hamm describes losing both of his parents at a young age and how devastating it was. He was just 10 when he lost his mother to cancer. His father passed when he was 20.
Hamm then describes attempting to deal with the depression that followed by himself, being a “tough midwesterner.” Eventually, his sister convinced him to see a therapist who helped him with his mental health and put him on a medication that change his life.
Hamm said: “It’s got the most interesting stigma. You know, people think if you break your ankle, you’re not expected to just walk it off. But if your brain chemistry is a little tweaked, you’re somehow just expected to deal with it. But it’s like, ‘Well, there’s medicine that fixes it.”
