You know, there was a time — not as long ago as it seems — when Stranger Things was Netflix’s only original hit. That was six years ago, and the fresh-faced kids that took us all on a memorable journey back to the 1980s and down to a spooky parallel reality have grown up a lot since then. So much so that it strains credulity that these actors would still be playing the high school students they are here in the first real trailer for Stranger Things 4.
That said, there’s a lot to like here. Some very heavy metal-type imagery dominates the scene, which finds the Hawkins gang facing down against what sure seems to be the Main Boss of the Upside Down. They’re a few heroes down, with Jim Hopper (David Harbour) in Soviet custody and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) missing her freaky-deaky telekinetic powers that gave our friends a leg up against the Demogorgons and other such creepy crawlies that making life even more miserable than it already is for moody adolescents with raging hormones. The show premiers on May 27 and then these kids will finally be released from their contracts.
