
It may sound like the stuff of science fiction, but researchers at M.I.T. say they are getting closer to being able to input information directly into a brain. Recently, the research team was able to plant a false memory into a mouse, and with technologists working on highly advanced brain-computer interfaces, the ability to download digital information into your own memory may not be too far off in the future. In an interview with The New York Times, M.I.T. neuroscientist Steve Ramirez compared the work to the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. “The one thing that the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind gets wrong, is that they are erasing an entire memory. I think we can do better, while keeping the image of Kate Winslet, we can get rid of the sad part of that memory” …
