That’s what the feds are alleging. Matthew Keys, Reuters’ young social media editor, has been indicted for allegedly conspiring with Mountain Dew-fueled hacking collective Anonymous to deface a bunch of websites in the Tribune Company, Keys’ old employer. The indictment is saying that after Keys was fired from a local Sacramento news station, he worked his way into an Anonymous chat room and convinced his new pals to hack the Los Angeles Times and deface their homepage, using passwords he’d gained from his time working there. If the allegations turn out to be true, it’s unlikely that Reuters will feel much of a sting—the incident in question occurred before Keys worked there. But it’s a blow to journalism.
