
Authorities and Italy and other European naval forces reportedly rescued more than 4,000 migrants from small, dangerous boats in the Mediterranean Sea this weekend. At least 17 bodies were also found. Most of the migrants were from unstable North African and Middle Eastern countries including Libya and Egypt. So far this year, tens of thousands have been rescued and at least 1,800 have died attempting to make the journey to Europe across the Mediterranean.
