
President Barack Obama will name his longtime foreign policy aide, Denis McDonough, to be his new chief of staff in what’s shaping up to be a significant shake-up in his senior staff. While chiefs of staff don’t spend a lot of time in the limelight, it’s one of the nation’s most influential positions. They act as the Oval Office’s gatekeepers, and not many things can happen in terms of domestic or foreign policy that don’t have the the chief of staff’s fingerprints on it.
