Officials in Russia have announced that the Syrian army will temporarily stop bombing Eastern Aleppo, where nearly 8,000 trapped civilians will be evacuated. The area has been under heavy attack for months, as Syrian forces attempt to take it back from rebel groups.
For their part, the U.S. is cautiously optimistic about the development, telling the BBC, it’s an “indication that something positive could happen but we’re going to have to wait and see … Our approach to the situation has been to listen carefully to what the Russians say, but scrutinise their actions.”
