Walmart—which evidently sold numerous items featuring images of the Confederate flag—has yanked the controversial merchandise from their stores and website. In a statement to CNN, a spokesperson for the retail chain said, “We never want to offend anyone with the products that we offer … We have a process in place to help lead us to the right decisions when it comes to the merchandise we sell. Still, at times, items make their way into our assortment improperly—this is one of those instances.” BuzzFeed reached out to Sears and eBay—both of which carry the Confederate flag as of this morning—but hasn’t heard back about their reasons for selling it. The controversial symbol is once again the subject of national debate, as South Carolina lawmakers decide whether to continue to display it on the state capitol grounds.
