Alright, so we all know by now that Ariana Grande’s ‘thank u, next’ is the ultimate break-up bop. In fact, we wish we’d had this song during the worst heartbreak of our lives. Apparently we’re not the only ones who feel that way, because the single is in its third week at No. 1 in the Hot 100.
Anyway, the 1975 completely reimagined Ari’s still-reigning No. 1 single into their own sound, and we love it almost as much as the original. The UK group stopped by BBC’s Live Lounge to cover the song. Their third album, A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships, is set to release this Friday.
Before kicking off the song, Matty Healy took a moment to praise Grande. “She’s someone I’ve started to really care about for some reason,” he said, relating it to her series of public heartbreak and trauma.
“I think she’s cool,” Healy said. “She’s got a great voice. And I don’t. So I’m gonna sing one of her songs.”
And they killed it.
PS: Ariana gave the cover a personal thumbs up.
