You may be wondering why Cory Matthews is making a run for Congress, but Savage is making it clear that he’s serious about restoring faith in government.

In a statement released on Instagram, Savage announced his bid for Congress, stating, “It’s time for new and passionate leaders who can help move our country forward. Leaders who want to see the government operating at maximum capacity, unhindered by political divisions and special interests.”

And if anyone knows a thing or two about overcoming obstacles and navigating tricky situations, it’s Cory Matthews.

Savage, “a proud Californian, union member and longtime resident of District 30 who comes from a family of unwavering service to our country and community,” shared his campaign platform will focus on key issues such as community safety, housing and homelessness. He previously pushed for these initiatives during his (unsuccessful) bid for the West Hollywood City Council in 2022.

While some may be skeptical of Savage’s ability to transition from teen heartthrob to political powerhouse, it’s worth noting that he studied political science at Stanford University and even interned for a Republican senator back in 2003. Plus, it’s not like he’s the first celebrity-turned-politician.

Savage is running against California Rep. Adam Schiff. The election will take place November 4, 2024.
