Haim’s New Quarantine Anthem ‘I Know Alone’ Is a Legit Great Tribute to Solitude

The Haim sisters are continuing their very slow rollout of their new (delayed) album Women in Music Pt. III with a new song and music video, along with a new album release date: June 26.

While this latest single, “I Know Alone”, was written in the halcyon pre-COVID days, it feels weirdly timely with its opening line: “I know alone like no one else does.” On Instagram, Danielle Haim wrote that the song came from a period of loneliness that taught her how to embrace solitude with tiny rituals that she says reflect “my own way of staying sane in my alone-ness and its really helping me get through this.” It’s a great song and the video, recorded during the lockdown, oozes with icy familiarity.

When RELEVANT spoke to Haim for an issue of our print magazine, Danielle told us about the complicated feelings involved from graduating to the big leagues of the music industry. It’s a mix of different emotions,” she said. “I’m terrified. I’m thankful. We wanted music to be our day jobs for a long time. Now the pressure’s on us.”

This song joins the rest of Haim’s recent slew of uniformly excellent singles that have us very excited for June. You can check out “Hallelujah” and “Now I’m In It” at the links.
