Moviepass Is Re-Launching Nationwide This Weekend

MoviePass, the once-mighty movie subscription service that burned through cash and went bankrupt in 2020, is back.

The new MoviePass, which now offers subscription plans that range from $10 a month (for one to three movies) to $40 a month (for thirty movies a month), is relaunching nationwide this Memorial Day weekend.

“By opening up MoviePass to film lovers nationwide, we are expanding our support of the movie theater industry by helping drive traffic to all theaters during the critical summer season,” said MoviePass CEO Stacey Spikes.

MoviePass was the extraordinary idea that skyrocketed in 2017 by offering customers that option to see one movie each day for $9.99 a month. It was a dream come true for movie lovers, but the unsustainable price point was too low for the company to succeed. MoviePass filed for bankruptcy in 2020 after several very public, very desperate bids for survival.

The company relaunched a beta version of MoviePass back in August and have been slowly working out issues to make it ready for primetime. But unlike when MoviePass first launched, theater chains now have their own monthly membership programs, including AMC’s Stubs A-List and Cinemark’s Movie Club. Let’s see if MoviePass can finally find success this time around.
