A theatrical screening of The Chosen Season 3: Episodes 1 & 2 exceeded Hollywood expectations at the box office, pulling in an estimated $8.2 million over the weekend.
Approximately 2,000 theaters around the country held special screenings of the faith series’ two-episode season premiere. Fans packed theaters to show support for the series that shows an in-depth look at the life of Jesus and his disciples.
On Saturday, The Hollywood Reporter shared that The Chosen was in the lead against other movies premiering over the weekend. By Monday morning, The Menu, a horror-comedy starring Ralph Fiennes, Anna Taylor-Joy and Nicholas Hoult, had come out slightly ahead with nearly $9 million. However, The Chosen did beat out She Said, a Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan-led film about the Harvey Weinstein scandal, in a landslide.
The Chosen Season 3: Episodes 1 & 2 will be available in select theaters before it premieres on the Angel Studios’ app Dec. 11.
