Late Friday night, The National surprised fans by dropping their tenth studio album, Laugh Track.
The new project serves as a companion to their album First Two Pages of Frankenstein, which released in April. Laugh Track has 12 new songs, including two features with Phoebe Bridgers and Roseann Cash.
“This album feels like the end of something and the beginning of something,” band member Aaron Dessner said to Esquire. “It just feels like a prolific time in the band, and that’s attributable to all the other things we’ve been independently doing and learning.”
For Dessner in particular, he’s spent the last few years collaborating with some of pop music’s biggest names, including Ed Sheeran, Gracie Abrams and, of course, Taylor Swift. The latter was featured on First Two Pages of Frankenstein.
