As you may be aware, most angels in the Bible aren’t half-naked cherubs or white bathrobed Baywatch models. Biblically accurate angels actually look more like …well, even the writers of the Bible kind of struggle to put language to what exactly they saw when they saw an angel. Their descriptions are so wild that some modern scholars have even wondered if the ancient prophets accidentally stumbled on some postdiluvian shrooms. Ezekiel saw a wheel within a wheel, all covered in eyes, and a creature with four different faces, one human, the others bestial. Isaiah saw a six-winged figure. Weird stuff!
You can see why movies and TV shows shy away from depicting these figures, but you can also see why these angels tended to announce their presence with a hearty “FEAR NOT!” since the very sight of these things would probably reduce anyone to a puddle of terror, trying to keep their mind from fracturing into a million dimensions.
But one group that wasn’t afraid to tackle the job is Spectrum Cinema, an independent film studio in Denmark that mostly dabbles in fan made Marvel movies and fan edits, but also put together this wicked attempt at putting what the Old Testament prophets describe to CGI. These absolutely unhinged videos are probably still a far cry from what actual angels look like, but it does get at the awe-inspiring bizarreness of the Biblical descriptions.
