Netflix’s New Series ‘The Chosen One’ Is About “The New Jesus”

Netflix is releasing a mysterious new series, The Chosen One, and it’s about… Jesus 2.0?

@DiscussingFilm teased the series on Twitter, which they describe as the story of “a little boy who finds out he’s the new Jesus Christ & will grow up to face the Antichrist in The Apocalypse.”

That’s a rough description, because it’s actually a little more than that.

Based on the comic book American Jesus from Mark Millar and Peter Gross, the show follows the story of Jodie, a 12-year-old boy who discovers he has miraculous Jesus-like powers, like turning water into wine and potentially even raising the dead. As local evangelical and Yaquí leaders try to persuade him to use his powers to save humanity, Jodie has his own priorities: impressing his crush and standing up to bullies. But as Jodie navigates his destiny and struggles to accept his identity, he uncovers a shocking truth that throws everything off balance.

The show boasts an impressive cast, including Tenoch Huerta, who recently starred in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Dianna Agron, and Carlos Bardem, older brother of Javier Bardem.

Netflix hasn’t announced an official release date for the series. No one yet knows the day or the hour.
