The First Teaser for Amazon’s ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ Invites You Back to Middle-Earth

Are you quite ready for another adventure? Who better to produce a new series about a single entity drunk of power and bent on domination than Amazon, right? At long last, we’re getting our first look at the company’s huge (and hugely expensive) new Lord of the Rings show, apparently called The Rings of Power. The show will take place eons before the events of Tolkien’s famous trilogy, exploring some of that stuff Galadriel covers in the voiceover at the beginning of Peter Jackson’s Fellowship of the Ring movie. They even return to some of that voiceover here for the teaser, with our new Galadriel (Morfydd Clark is taking over for Cate Blanchett) gravely warning about rings and power and Mordor and all that. Hope you like b-roll of liquid gold!

Will it be any good? Who knows. J.R.R. Tolkien provided a loose roadmap for some of the events in his own writing, some of which you can find in books like The Silmarillion. But Amazon is very obviously chasing that Game of Thrones energy with all this, and it remains to be seen how well the source material will lend itself to that aim. The show will debut in September, where we’ll see if Amazon can triumph or if all will be lost to the realm of Mordor where the shadows lie.
