Macklemore—generally known as a paragon of progressive thought and tolerance—has found himself in some pretty hot water for a secret show he played in Seattle last Friday. The occasion was the opening of a new art museum, and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis were the show’s big surprise, but the bigger surprise was that Macklemore was dressed up as the stereotype of a greedy, hook-nosed Jewish man. No one seems quite sure of what he was going for (he said in a tweet that it was just “A fake witches nose, wig, and beard = random costume. Not my idea of a stereotype of anybody” and also used the old “I have Jewish friends” defense.) but nobody’s very happy about it …
