Lana Del Rey Explains What Really Went Down at That Waffle House

Lana Del Rey has finally shared why she spent some time working at a Waffle House in Alabama this summer.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Del Rey explained that she had been visiting friends in Florence, Alabama, where she frequented the same Waffle House for a few days with her brother and sister.

“We were on our third hour [that day], and the servers asked, ‘Do you guys want shirts?'” she said. “We were thrilled.”

The staff were so excited to work with her that in addition to the uniform, she received her own apron and name tag. After that, Del Rey began to return for several days, happily pitching in and greeting regular customers.

“This guy, a regular, comes in every day and orders two things, so they were like, ‘Just go get it for him!'” Del Rey recalled. “I brought him a Coke. No ice. And an empty cup — for dip.”

It took only a few hours for images and videos to go viral on social media of Del Rey in uniform pouring coffee, greeting customers and moonlighting as a waitress. At the time, the “Summertime Sadness” singer was in between headlining shows, and had wrapped up promotion for her latest album, Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Boulevard?

“I wish my album had gone as viral,” Del Rey joked. “I woke up to, like, 10,000 texts the next morning — some from folks I had not heard from for 10 years. ‘Saw your picture at the Waffle House!’ [Laughing.] I was like, ‘Did you hear the new album?'”
