Millennial Nerds, Rejoice! Marvel Drops the First Trailer for ‘X-Men ’97’

If you spent your Saturday mornings in the 90s watching X-Men cartoons, have we got some news for you.

Marvel has released its first trailer for X-Men ’97, a continuation of the iconic 1990s X-Men animated Saturday morning series. Picking up right after the events of the finale of X-Men: The Animated Series, the reboot will continue the stories of the mutants left behind by Charles Xavier, who left Earth to travel to Shi’ar. That means viewers can expect to see the familiar faces (with updated animation, thankfully) of Cyclops, Wolverine, Jean Grey, Beast, Storm, Rogue, Gambit, Jubilee, Bishop and Magneto, who took over everything Professor X left behind.

After several box office bombs — at least by Marvel’s standards — the superhero franchise is going back to the good old days when mutants reigned supreme and Marvel Studios had a clearer idea of what they were doing. Sure, it’s a total pander to millennials’ desire for nostalgia, but sometimes it feels nice to be catered to.

X-Men ‘97 drops on Disney+ on March 20.
