Greta Gerwig’s ‘Chronicles of Narnia’ Will Start Filming Next Year

Greta Gerwig is set to direct two adaptations from “The Chronicles of Narnia” for Netflix, with filming beginning in 2024.

Scott Stuber, Head of Netflix Film, expressed excitement about the upcoming project in an interview with Collider, although specific details about the adaptation remain closely guarded. However, he did share the streaming giant’s intent to start the project sooner rather than later.

“Well, I think people know that we’re aspirationally trying to get Greta Gerwig’s [The Chronicles ofNarnia together and get that movie, which will be next year,” Stuber said.

After her successes with Lady Bird, Little Women and this summer’s mega-blockbuster hit Barbie, Netflix announced that the Oscar-winning director had been tapped for two film adaptations of C.S. Lewis’s “The Chronicles of Narnia.”

With previous adaptations of the series setting a high bar, the pressure is on for Gerwig to take on a beloved classic, and she’s certainly feeling that pressure.

“I haven’t even really started wrapping my arms around it. But I’m properly scared of it, which feels like a good place to start,” Gerwig said. “I think when I’m scared, it’s always a good sign. Maybe when I stop being scared, it’ll be like, ‘Okay. Maybe I shouldn’t do that one.’ No, I’m terrified of it. It’s extraordinary. And so we’ll see, I don’t know.”

Netflix has remained tight-lipped about which books Gerwig will adapt, but we’re hoping she gets the chance to adapt the best book in the series.
